New Data Available on WhyNotTheBest.org

The following data on WhyNotTheBest.org has been updated:

  • Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) process-of-care measures;

  • Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) measures of patients' experiences; and

  • incidence of central line–associated bloodstream infections.

Users of WhyNotTheBest.org can conduct side-by-side comparisons of nearly 6,500 hospitals nationwide, track performance over time against numerous benchmarks, and learn from case studies of top performers.

New Compare by Groups reports let you compare hospital groups by various characteristics: contrast the performance of all safety-net hospitals to for-profit hospitals, for example, or compare rural with urban hospitals. And through Compare by Regions reports, you can examine aggregated hospital performance by state, county, or hospital referral region, as well as population health in communities around the nation.

Enhancements to the interactive map make it easier to explore regional variation and use overlays to track delivery system reforms, such as emerging accountable care organizations, as well as flag health care providers who have been recognized for delivering high-quality care.
