Background:
The Research Committee is open to all SACME members who are interested in CME research. The goal of the committee is to foster CME research through education, mentoring and support of both novice and experienced researchers.

Activities of the Research Committee:

• Committee Meetings
  The full Research Committee meets twice a year at the Fall and Spring SACME Meetings. Business includes reports from the project leaders. Committee leadership meets several times throughout the year via conference call.

• Research in CME (RICME)
  Held each year at SACME's Spring Meeting, and occasionally at the Fall Meeting, RICME is a forum for researchers to present projects to their peers. RFPs are distributed in January/February followed by a peer review of proposals. Accepted proposals are presented in either oral or poster formats.

• Summer Institute for CME Research
  The Institute is a biennial event planned by the Research Committee to provide basic research skills training to those interested in beginning or continuing research in CME. The Institute is a five-day focused program which allows the researcher to bring a topic, research question or project in progress to develop with peers and consultants.

• Research Workshops
  The SACME Fall Meeting in conjunction with the AAMC annual meeting provides opportunity for research education. Generally held prior to the start of SACME meetings, the Research Workshop is geared toward specific research skills.

• Mentors
  Those with a need for research mentors are welcome to contact the Research Committee with requests at any time. Experienced researchers in the CME field are available for consultation.

Related Activities

• Research and Development Resource Base
  Housed at the University of Toronto, this bibliographic database of over 18,000 references collected in one place many of the references to the literature of continuing health professional education. A librarian offers a low cost literature search service to physicians, educators, administrators and other health professionals. SACME assists in funding the RDRB.

• AAMC/SACME Harrison Survey
  SACME conducts a survey of its members every year (formerly every 2 years) and shares findings with the membership.
