National Faculty Education Initiative

Mar-26-2009

Last fall, the Alliance for CME (Alliance) and the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME), in collaboration with the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), launched the National Faculty Education Initiative (NFEI).

We are delighted to inform you that the NFEI's online training course on the differences between certified CME and promotional activities, as well as the robust verification database, are experiencing heightened attention, increased physician participation, and widespread endorsement by various professional organizations within the healthcare community. Here are just a few highlights that we would like to share with you:

    • The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) have joined the Association for Hospital Medical Education (AHME) in endorsing the NFEI.
    • The NFEI received media coverage in Medical Meetings and Medical Marketing & Media, among other publications.
    • The NFEI continues to receive high marks for the presentation of the content and the delivery format. To date, over 800 individuals have completed the online educational course.
    • A number of medical schools, medical specialty societies, and other healthcare organizations are initiating efforts to integrate this program into their faculty development efforts as a strategy for resolving identified conflicts of interest.
    • As a member benefit, you continue to receive free access to the National Faculty Education Initiative's verification database as a resource for confirming faculty member completion of the NFEI course. In addition to an individual person search function, we have recently developed a tool to find trained faulty within your own organization. If you visit the database on the website, you will see a link located below the individual person search tool that takes you to a multiple person search tool. This allows your organization to enter the names of your faculty (or potential faculty) to see who has completed the training.

If you have not yet visited the site, we invite you to learn more about this innovative education program at http://www.NFEInitiative.org. If you have any questions, feedback, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact SACME or the Alliance.
